Dr. Carl R. Barr is a native of Pennsylvania. He attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received his degree in osteopathic medicine. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the National Capital Consortium in Bethesda, Md. Dr. Barr retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander and served for 27 years, including during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dr. Barr is board-certified in Neurology, with special qualifications in Child Neurology. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Neurology, Child Neurology Society and American Epilepsy Society. Dr. Barr is director of Child Neurology for Florida Hospital for Children and has privileges at Florida Hospital for Children, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. He is licensed to practice medicine in Florida and Pennsylvania.
He has a true passion for the children he treats and strives to make each child’s visit as informative and helpful as possible. He and his staff are committed to providing exceptional medical care in a compassionate and caring environment.
Dr. Murtuza K. Kothawala received his medical degree from the Government Medical College & Hospital in Nagpur, India. While there, he pursued his passion for pediatrics and finished his Masters in Pediatrics. He practiced pediatrics in a large hospital for 11 years. During his time as a Pediatrician, he developed a special interest in neurological disorders. He came to the U.S. and completed his pediatric residency at Cooper University Hospital in New Jersey. He then completed his fellowship in child neurology at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Kothawala is board-certified in Pediatrics and Neurology, with special qualification in Child Neurology. Dr. Kothawala is also board certified in Epilepsy. His areas of special interest are epilepsy, headaches and neurobehavioral disorders in children. Dr. Kothawala has privileges at Florida Hospital for Children, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. He is licensed to practice medicine in Florida. He is fluent in several Indian languages, including Hindi.
Angela was born and raised here in Orlando, Florida and is a true Floridian. She attended the University of Central Florida to pursue nursing. She earned her Bachelor's degree in nursing in 2008 with Summa Cum Laude honors and was the top honor graduate of her class. From there she went on to become a Burn/Trauma RN at Orlando Regional Medical Center. She graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2012 with her Master's degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is board certified with a love for children.
Angela is married with one son and a dog. She enjoys spending time with family and visiting the beach. In her spare time you will find her at the gym or enjoying the outdoors. She loves any and all sports and is a Gator fan by marriage.
Adriana was born and raised in Puerto Rico, moved to Florida in 2010. She received her Associates Degree in 2012 at Southern Technical College. She worked at a Cancer Center for 4 years and joined Florida Child Neurology in 2016. She is happily married with three children. She enjoys spending time with her family. She is fluent in both Spanish and English.
Andrea was born and raised in western Kansas. She attended Newman University School of Nursing for her undergraduate education, graduating magna cum laude in 2004. During her career as a registered nurse, she cared for patients in the neonatal ICU and worked as the lead clinical educator in the NICU at Children's Hospital of Colorado. She later obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing, specializing in Pediatrics at the University of Colorado in 2013. She is a board certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Mental Health Specialist through PNCB.
Andrea has special interest in pediatric mental health, developmental delays, epilepsy, and headaches in the pediatric population. She is an advocate of wellness through preventative care and enjoys inspiring families through education.
Andrea married Jerod Thayer in 2003, and together they have one beautiful daughter, Emma. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, scuba diving, traveling, exercising, and dancing.
Easter grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. Upon completion of high school she joined the United States Army. She served 22 years and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in areas of Maternal Child & Health from 1986-2000.
Upon her retirement from the military, she continued her career progression and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in nursing at University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Not yet satisfied, she pursued her passion to work in pediatrics and completed her Master’s degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at University of Central Florida in 2012.
She is a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner, a member of the Florida Nurse Association, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International.
Easter is a former marathon runner, enjoys biking, riding her street strider, and she is a fervent sports fan. Her favorite teams are UF “Gator” football, KU basketball, Lady Vols basketball, KC Royals & Chiefs, & The Dallas Cowboys. She is married and has 3 fur babies.
Dr. Muhammad Salim is the newest member of our medical team.
He holds board certifications in Child Neurology, Epilepsy, and Clinical Neurophysiology, and has over 18 years of experience.
Dr. Salim received his medical degree at the University of Karachi/ Sindh Medical College in Pakistan. From there, Dr. Salim went on to complete his child neurology residency at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He completed his Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
His primary interests are in epilepsy, headaches, and ADHD.
A husband and father of two young children, Dr. Salim enjoys white water rafting and reading in his spare time.
Dr. Salim also speaks Hindi and Urdu.
Christine is a native of our hometown, Orlando Florida. She attended the University of Central Florida where she received her undergraduate degree and began working for Orlando Health as a Registered Nurse in 2013. She began working on the Adult Neurology Progressive Care Unit at ORMC and it was there that Neurology sparked her interest. Christine always felt her true passion lied in caring for children, so after 2 years she transferred to Arnold Palmer’s Neurology Unit.
This is where Pediatric Neurology captured her heart. It is also where she met Dr. Barr and Dr. Kothawala and completed her Certified Pediatric Nurse certification.
Christine obtained her Master’s of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of South Florida and became licensed as a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 2018. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
When she isn’t working she loves spending time with her family, friends and “fur babies” Rue (Goldendoodle) and Levi (Terrier mix). She enjoys traveling, scuba diving, trying new foods, being outdoors and going to Disney. Even though she went to USF for graduate school, her heart will forever belong to her UCF Knights!
